    NetApp’s Snapshot technology delivers more stability, scalability and recoverability than our major competitors while avoiding the performance penalty of competing Snapshot technologies. Users may provision up to 254 snapshot backups per flexible volume.  Using snapshots for backups makes extremely efficient use of storage capacity by replicating only the 4K blocks that change between successive snapshots.

  • FlexClone

    Originally developed to support storage for Oracle’s Austin Data center, FlexClones are instantly provisioned writeable snapshots. They are typically used for backup, dev/test, simulations or any situation where it’s desirable to provision a new writeable file system of LUNs based on a template. If needed, a FlexClone can also be split off (copied) to create an entirely new container that shares no storage blocks with the original.

  • SnapLock and LockVault

    This family of technologies provides WORM functionality to archival storage on disk. Stored data is unaltered and accessible, and searchable using conventional application methods.     The NearStore personality license optimizes your storage array for operations in which it is a target for backup streams.  This license increases the number of streams supported.

  • SnapDrive

    SnapDrive interfaces with the host operating systems volume manager and provides a GUI tool to provision storage containers on the NetApp storage array. SnapDrive also provides host access to Snapshot creation and SnapRestore functions. On Windows hosts, SnapDrive integrates with VSS to provide consistent snapshot copies at the file system level and provides a tool to reclaim deleted blocks in LUN containers.
